Lärandemål

• have an understanding of the fundamentals of design including composition and structure, shape and pattern, value and form (1),
• have a fundamental understanding of the perceptual and cognitive aspects of seeing and drawing (2).

• have acquired the skills to visually generate and present ideas using appropriate drawing and sketching techniques (3),
• be able to analyze and critique visual imagery and communication within a wider cultural context (4),
• be able to draw spaces, objects, still life compositions, and the human figure (5),
• be able to depict light and shade using a range of different materials and techniques (6).

• have acquired the values of being able to work independently to complete design tasks and develop their ability to cooperate with and show respect for their classmates in group critiques (7).

Formerna för att bedöma studenternas prestationer

The students will be examined through:

-individual drawing projects in which students explore different drawing concepts and techniques (8 hp),
-oral presentations of work within critique seminars (1.5 hp),
-written responses to course literature and to critique seminars (2 hp),
-assigned drawings in a personal sketchbook (1.5 hp),
-and the creation of an individual final drawing project (2 hp).

Contribution to group seminars and discussions and participation in lectures and class exercises are part of the examination criteria.


Innehåll eller kursinnehåll

In this course students will develop the skills to depict existing forms and spaces, and to generate and present ideas visually. It is suitable for those wishing to strengthen their drawing skills for personal or professional use or for portfolio development. The course is divided into 3 major sections, with the first section devoted to the fundamentals of drawing and design, the next to applied drawing, followed by a final project. Students will be introduced to drawing materials and rendering techniques, linear perspective, figure drawing and portraits, landscapes and cityscapes, light and value, composition, color theory, and drawing for illustration, product design and storyboards. The course also introduces perceptual and cognitive aspects of drawing and visual communication and the role of the visual image within a cultural context.


Arbetsformer

Instruction is conducted through lectures, critique seminars and assigned drawing exercises, both individual and in groups.
